Understanding skin ageing

Skin quality shifts gradually over time. Changes in hydration, collagen and elastin, cell turnover and pigmentation are all part of a natural process, and they can be influenced by sun exposure, sleep, hormones, general health and long-term skincare habits. What is visible on the surface is usually the product of several of these factors rather than any single cause.

Because the picture is individual, a consultation is used to look at your own skin in person and to understand what you have noticed in your own words, rather than applying the same approach to everyone. Skin type, sensitivity, previous treatments and medical history may all influence what is or is not considered appropriate.

For background reading, our Knowledge Centre covers what to expect at an aesthetic consultation and how to prepare.

Common skin concerns

A skin rejuvenation consultation is an opportunity to discuss concerns you have noticed and to receive a considered clinical view. Areas often discussed include:

  • fine lines
  • dull or tired-looking skin
  • loss of firmness
  • uneven texture
  • reduced elasticity
  • dehydrated skin
  • enlarged pores
  • early signs of ageing

Booking a consultation does not guarantee that any treatment will be recommended or that you will be considered suitable. Suitability is assessed individually and only after the doctor has reviewed your history, skin and goals.

Why book a Skin Rejuvenation Consultation?

Skin quality, medical history, lifestyle factors, previous treatments and personal goals may all influence the conversation. A dedicated appointment gives that discussion the time it needs.

  • Individual assessment

The doctor considers your skin quality, hydration, texture and factors specific to you rather than a generic template.

  • Discussion of suitability

Medical history, current medications, previous aesthetic treatments and skincare are reviewed to inform the discussion.

  • Realistic expectations

The doctor talks through what any potential approach can and cannot achieve, and what a considered outcome might reasonably look like.

  • Opportunity to ask questions

A private setting to raise concerns, compare options and take away written information before making any decision.

The consultation process

  1. Book your consultation

Choose a time that suits you. The consultation deposit is confirmed at the point of booking.

  2. Discuss your concerns and medical background

Share what you have noticed, your goals and relevant history — including previous aesthetic treatments, skincare and any active skin conditions.

  3. Receive a personalised assessment

The doctor examines your skin in person, considers texture, hydration, firmness and tone, and discusses what appears to be contributing to the appearance you have described.

  4. Review possible approaches and limitations

You are talked through approaches that may be appropriate, alongside their limitations. Nothing is decided on your behalf.

  5. Decide whether to proceed

You leave with the information you need to consider your next step in your own time. There is no expectation of same-day treatment.

Consultation details

  • Approximately 30–45 minutes

Unhurried time to discuss your concerns and ask questions.

  • Doctor-led assessment

Your skin is assessed in person by an experienced doctor, considering quality, texture and tone.

  • Written recommendations

Where appropriate, key points from the discussion are summarised for you to take away.

  • No obligation to proceed

A cooling-off period is encouraged so any decision is made calmly and with full information.

Preparing for your consultation

To help your doctor-led consultation be as useful as possible, please bring:

  • a summary of any previous aesthetic or skin treatments, with approximate dates
  • your current skincare routine, prescription products and known allergies, if relevant
  • details of any medical conditions or medications that may affect the skin
  • photographs if you would like to show how your skin has changed over time
  • any questions you would like the doctor to answer

Treatments that may be discussed

Following assessment, the doctor may discuss one or more appropriate approaches depending on your skin concerns, examination findings and medical history. Topics that may be covered include:

  • skincare recommendations, where relevant
  • no treatment, where that is the most appropriate outcome
  • skin boosters, considered in general terms
  • polynucleotide-based approaches, considered in general terms
  • Profhilo®, considered in general terms
  • PRP (platelet-rich plasma), considered in general terms
  • Rejuran®, considered in general terms
  • Karisma®, considered in general terms
  • exosome-based regenerative approaches, considered in general terms
  • combination treatment planning, where relevant
  • referral or further assessment, if that would be more suitable

Suitability is assessed individually during consultation. Not every treatment is appropriate for every patient, and no treatment is required following consultation.
